I recently gave a Persuasive Speech about lessening the use of plastic materials i.e. grocery bags and water bottles (surprise, surprise, eh?). I am happy to inform you all that I received an "A" on this assignment and had everyone in my class persuaded to rethink their use of plastic. I'm not going to tell you what I said during my speech because I think you all know how I feel about plastic by now (thanks to my recent posts and advertisements for "Lauren's Favorite Things" - considerably less adequate of a list than Oprah's but nonetheless satisfactory) so it would be pointless to repeat myself.

With all the recent success in my COM classes, I can't help but think about my decision to major in Psychology. I have changed my major three times: Communication to Business to Psychology. Maybe I should have stuck with Communcation as my major afterall... Don't worry, I'm not changing it back, but I am thankful that I was able to figure out at least a minor in Communication. It's funny to look back on that decision however because the reason why I didn't want to major in COM is because of the public speaking aspect, and yet, here I am. Public speaking and speaking well.

Today, I have another speech. This one is the Informative. It's basically just like a Persuasive Speech because it involves the same amount of research and credibility, except you just subtract the persuasion part. I decided to "inform" my audience about the cruelty toward factory farm animals. I knew that informing my class about a vegetarian diet would be slightly controversial, so I figured I should just talk about the main reason why I became a veggie: animal brutality. Sounds good enough to me...

So I'll keep you informed on how that goes and let you know how I did.
