So, luckily for me, I got to experience this zero tolerance stress. It's freakin' Valentine's Day. I had plans with my wonderful boyfriend and they had to be rearranged and accomodated because one lovely employee decided not to come into work today. But hey, at least this employee called when she was scheduled to come in. Right?
No. It's so ridiculous. Here's the deal. I understand that people have unexpected emergencies, and for those, I feel remorse and empathy. However, I do not believe that there is a personal emergency per one employee every freakin' week. It seems like this employee uses the same excuse after excuse after excuse to not come into work.
I think the most frustrating thing to me is that when an employee decides to not show up to work, it effects the employee's co-workers... like me, for example.
It creates a tense and more stressful environment. I mean, I work in a spa for God's sake, I shouldn't be stressed. I work in an all white room in all white clothing (terrible clothing, if I may add) and I listen to spa music with lit candles all damn day long. I shouldn't be stressed. But I am... and needless to say, I'm pissed.
So I ask all who read this to be considerate towards your co-workers. Before calling in sick, before deciding to no-show or play hookie, think about your co-workers, your boss(es) and make the best decision. Use good judgment.
Do not use the same excuse every week, in fact, how about you don't have any excuses and do what you were hired to do in the first place. I don't understand the lack of responsibility.
And also, talk to your boss/supervisor/manager/whatever you call them when you're calling in sick. Man up and deal with the top of the ladder like a decent person would. Do not lean on your fellow co-workers to relay the message to the big guns, ok? It's immature and just plain stupid.
In conclusion, I would like to add that you will NOT hear me make excuses like the ones I have heard. You will always expect an informative phone call or text from me. (FYI: In my case, I text my boss because we're cool like that; she is super awesome. I call her Bossy Boss, in case you were wondering.)
So yeah, be smart and considerate. And don't ruin my damn plans anymore. Thanks.
