Chicago

My first trip to Chicago... man oh man I loved this city. It was beautiful and surprisingly very green. I had always known about really tall buildings and the Bean and Oprah and stuff, but I didn't think this place would have so many trees. Oh and Michigan Lake doesn't look like a lake. It looks like an ocean. And it had waves. And beachy sand. It was crazy.

Ok, so my absolutely, nothing-less-than-wonderful boyfriend bought us tickets to see the Cubs vs. the Pirates at Wrigley. So we planned an overnight trip for Monday, the day after the Indy 500: drive to Chi-town, lounge at the hotel and then take the red line to Wrigley for the game, then go back to the hotel, sleep, wake up and drive back to Indiana. It was awesome! We got to Chicago and Drew drove me around the city a bit. We were able to find decent parking so we walked to the beach and then to Navy Pier. Navy Pier was beautiful. I loved the feel of it. Drew and I were total romantics walking on that pier. It was amazing.

So when we got to Hotel Sax, we were really excited because it's only about a 5 minute walk to the red line. And Hotel Sax, by the way, is awesome. Super chic but in a really funky, eclectic way. Our room was awesome. There was a snakeskin chair (which I didn't like) but it was cool I guess.

We had brought our Cubbies gear, obviously, so we got ready and headed to the red line. The red line was our second experience of public transportation by train that week. The first time was the lightrail to get to Phoenix airport... and then the red line. Ok, so while we were waiting for the train, there was a guy singing and obviously asking for money. But he was really good. He was singing My Chere Amor by Stevie Wonder and it was awesome. And I was singing along and dancing so I gave him a dollar and he dedicated the next song to Drew and I... "for the lovely couple." I think I kind of embarrassed Drew, but I don't care cuz it was cool! So we hopped on the red line and found ourselves at Wrigley.

Wrigley is the craziest stadium ever. It sits right in the middle of the neighborhood. There are no parking garages anywhere. Super cool. Oh, and the rooftop bleechers! I want to sit there sometime. People literally can purchase seats on the rooftops and watch the game since it's right there in the neighborhood. Awesome.

So the Cubs took us to 11 innings and lost. Not cool. But it was still fun. We sat in the aisle, which was kind of annoying but kind of cool. The beer and food guys would walk up and down yelling... "Bud! Bud Light! Beer!" or "Hotdogs!" (bang bang bang). There was some ugly chick walking up and down with the most awful, screaching voice ever yelling "Budweiser here!" I wish you could have heard it. It was terrible. Haha!

So the next morning, we drove back to Indiana where Drew took me to his childhood homes and neighborhoods and his high school. It was fantastic to see his background. He has such a love for Indiana and now I do, too!
