Well the guy at Starbucks this morning did! Oh my gosh, it made my day.
So I wake up to the sun shining, I can tell it's going to be a beautiful day. I was a bit groggy this morning though... Swollen eyes, a tad stuffy - gotta love allergies, right? Anyway, I get ready for work and decide to go into Starbucks to redeem my tea coupon that Mom gave me the last time she was in AZ. So I walk into my routine Starbs and there is this new guy behind the counter. He resembled Uncle Larry a tad, so he looked a bit familiar.
To further describe this guy, he looked like he had previously worked for a larger company, one that requires a college degree. My assumption is that he got laid off and couldn't find any other job so he decided to go for Starbucks because they offer benefits... oh how easily my mind runs away with these thoughts...
Anyway, I finally made my way to the counter to order my dee-lish venti sweetened black iced tea. This Uncle Larry look-alike greeted me with the biggest smile, asked me how I was doing. I responded, "I'm fantastic! How are you?" And he started singing. Yes! Singing! "I've got the world on a string, sitting on a rainbow..." And so I was like... ehhh what the hell? So I sang back, "got that string around my finger..." And we both finished "what a world, what a life, I'm in love!" Don't think this didn't draw attention from the rest of the Starbs customers. They were staring as if we were total freaks, but seriously, it was one of the best beginnings to my day EVER.
Moral of the story is that there are little things you could do for people that could make a difference in their day. Smile or say hello to people who pass you by on the sidewalk, hold the door open for someone, hug a friend when you see them even if you saw them five minutes ago, give a friend a call to let them know you were thinking of them, send a text message... there are so many things you could do that don't cost a thing that could ultimately put a smile on someone's face.
This Uncle Larry look-alike made the biggest difference in my day... I mean... he is obviously blog-worthy.
I am still smiling as I sit at work by myself. In fact, I can't stop singing that song now. When Mom called me this morning, I answered by singing the song into the phone for her. And yes, she sang it back.
SEATING ON A RAINBOW...WHAT A WORLD... I"M IN LOVE.
