Katie flew into Phoenix and stayed with Lyss and I for a few days and then she and I flew to Denver where Holly and her friend Carly picked us up at the airport and drove us all to Breck. I have been to Colorado with Mom before, so I vaguely remembered the roads we drove on, but I had never been to Breck. We drove through Frisco to get there and when we finally got there, I fell in love. This was the probably the cutest, most quaint town I've ever been to in the US. Of course there was snow EVERYWHERE and it was FREEZING. I didn't really realize how much of an affect the sun in CA and AZ had on me until I got into the cold. 32 degrees felt like below 0 to me! What the heck!?
Anyway, the first night we were there, we went out to the bars. Holly conveniently lives right on Main Street in Breck. Great location if I do say so myself. Of course, we immediately started to reminisce about our Euro memories, like how Katie had to take outrageously loopy sleeping pills for her insomnia and how Holly would always contort her body into awkward positions that she claimed were comfortable (still does by the way) and how I ended up in an Italian hospital in Florence after an unfortunate incident on our Spanish Steps Pub Crawl in Rome. We talked about all the other girls we had met on the trip and whom we still miss dearly.
We giggled about Annee Dillow...
Annee: Hey guys, does the bus driver hit on you?
All of us girls: No.
Annee: Yeah, me either.
We laughed at Ashley Kemp...
Ash: I'm gonna find me an EYE-talian Stalion!
Anyway... So many great times with these girls, so obviously I expected to have a wonderful reunion with Katie and Holly. It was nothing less.
Breck has a lot of fantastic restaurants and cute shopping/tourist places that we walked through and visited. Holly took us to Mary's Mountain Cookies. Umm - probably the best things I have ever put in my mouth. OMG. These cookies... I am almost speechless to describe them because words do them no justice. SO GOOD.
Since we went to the bars the first night, it seems only reasonable that we got "over-served" (as Mom calls it). By the end of the night, between the 3rd and 4th bars, I busted out some Michael Jackson dance moves in response to a song that was playing in The Motherloaded (name of the bar). Holly broke out the moon walk and I definitely did, too. Before I knew it, I was doing Beat It down Main Street. Uhh... I'm not embarrassed cuz I know I rocked it. I don't really remember who watched, but I know that everyone was cracking up cuz I knew the whole dance of the chorus. I'm just stellar like that. Fortunately, no one took any pictures of my performance; I wouldn't want anyone to feel bad for their lack of dance coordination.
Anywho, the following day was a "recovery day." We opted to not go snowboarding til Saturday, so we just walked around town, took some pics and enjoyed each other's company.
Saturday, we snowboarded. I was a bit nervous cuz I haven't been in 2 years, but I was ready to tackle the slopes. I didn't fall at all, except for when a snowboarder tumbled me from behind; his knees went right into my lower back. Awesome, right? After that little episode of getting the wind knocked outta' me and having to lay there for 10 minutes, I opted out of continuing down the slopes and just headed for the lobby. Since Holly is a skier, she tried my boots and board to see what it was like. She claimed she did pretty well. Katie on the other hand, who had only been snowboarding once before, didn't get so lucky. In my opinion, she did great! She was daring and willing. But in her butt's opinion, she didn't do so well. The morning after snowboarding, a bruise the size of Texas landed on her ass. Hilarious, but sad at the same time.
I feel like most of my Breck weekend was spent in recovery, but I had SO MUCH FUN with Katie and Holly.
When the Euro trip ended, Lyss and I talked about how we hoped to see all the girls again, especially K and H. The girls and I talked about it in Breck and I guess they had talked about the same thing after their trip. So it is definitely awesome that we were able to reconnect.
Anyway, I know Breck is kind of a short story, but it was definitely not short of fun. Here are a few pics I stole my Katie's FaceBook. Holly hasn't posted any yet and my camera died after two pictures on the first night. Awesome.
