Shrimp Cocktail.

Drew and I went to Fleming's with his pal Brooks and his girlfriend Kerry. We actually went to Fleming's for wine tasting not too long ago and while there, we each received $25 gift cards to spend on another day's visit. So the four of us reunited to spend our gift cards before they expired. Considering my hours have been cut in half and Drew's job is excruciating grad school, it's safe to say we don't want to be spending any money right now.

So how in the hell did we manage to spend LESS than $50 at Fleming's? I'm sure most of you know that Fleming's is a fantastic steak house with not so college-friendly prices. But hey, the food is SO worth it there. Except for maybe the shrimp cocktail that my Handy-Man Hero ordered (details to follow).

Since I'm back on a diet, I basically had to plan out what I was going to eat before we arrived, so I decided lots of wine and a salad. Typical for me, right? Drew basically decided the same thing: wine and an appetizer.

We looked at the wine list - which by the way is uber fabulous - and decided that we were going to share a bottle of white zinfandel. We picked the cheapest bottle (Beringer at $25). So basically, there goes one gift card. Then we decided on our salad and appetizer. I went with the Fleming's Salad and Drew chose the Shrimp Cocktail.

So our food finally comes out and my salad looks DEE-LISH. It had dried cranberries and homemade croutons and onions - so good. And it was big, too! Drew's three pieces of shrimp... not so much. I mean, I assume the shrimp was delicious. I wouldn't know because I didn't want to be responsible for eating 1/3 of his plate, but he was definitely able to finish it all (wink).

So all in all, our bottle of wine, salad and appetizer came out to $47. Wow. WOW. We're pretty damn cool.

I would love to go back to Fleming's one day for a ginormous entree. Like... when I win the lotto.
